Friday will mark the official kickoff of another Volunteer Income Tax Assistance season here in Lincoln. Lincoln Action Program will serve as the lead agency in coordinating volunteer efforts concentrated on assisting hard working families complete their tax returns. Special emphasis will once again be placed on increasing the claiming of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and other tax credits created to increase the incomes of low and middle income workers. The EITC is a special tax benefit for working people who earn low or moderate incomes. It has several important purposes; to reduce the tax burden on these workers, supplement wages, and to provide a work incentive.
